About Starve the Demon
My Journey Into Service
When I was doing service work, I used to take an AA meeting into a homeless shelter. One day, I showed up and realized I was the only person from the outside who came in. It ended up being the first time I ever led a meeting completely by myself.
I didn’t have a topic planned, so I just opened it up. I told everyone there to ask me questions about recovery — anything they wanted to know. And that simple conversation changed everything.
That day, I realized something important: I could take complex ideas about recovery and make them simple and real. People listened, asked, and connected. It wasn’t about preaching — it was about talking with people, not at them.
From Service to Purpose
Later, after I got into treatment, I found myself doing the same thing with new clients. The ones who were lost, confused, or just had a thousand questions — I did my best to help them find answers or point them in the right direction.
That’s what being a recovery coach is about.
I don’t “fix” anyone. I just help them find their own path.
Why I Started Starve the Demon
I started this channel as another form of service — a way to reach people who are struggling and searching for their way out.
Recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. The 12 Steps helped me, but I also know not everyone will walk the same path. That’s why Starve the Demon is about exploring all modalities of recovery — spiritual, clinical, creative, physical, whatever it takes.
Sobriety should be available to anyone and everyone.
If one thing doesn’t work for you, that doesn’t mean nothing will.
It means we just haven’t found your way yet.
Let’s figure it out together.
